Mobile App Development

Have you visited the APP STORE today? Check out the latest games, tools, and programs HERE!

Not too long ago while at Blog World Expo I sat in on a session about making and marketing an iPhone app. The session was very interesting and showed me the process was not as difficult as I previously assumed. I have worked with .net development, C+, and html before and it seemed that app development would use many of those same skills. So today I will go over what it takes to create and market a mobile phone app.

Now although I have a Windows Mobile phone and would probably want to develop software for that seeing how I would actually be able to use it. I do have an iTouch as well and the idea of selling an app to the iTunes store is very appealing. It also turns out that all you really need to get started in developing your app is the SDK from the Apple site.

SDK simply stands for software development kit. This is what developers use to crank out all the mobile apps that you have come to love. Once downloaded, you can begin to design your app. But before you even begin you should know the objective of your program and mock it up. Mocking it up will save time and give you somewhat of a blueprint to work from.

Once the app is created you need a solid plan to market it in the app store. You want the app to be discovered so it needs to play on emotion, have a good title, and compelling key art. Be sure to list the features of the app and sell the benefits.

Like anything it will take testing to decide which ad copy works best so just be patient. You also need to worry about reviews for your app. Reviews can make or break your application so it is imperative that you get good reviews. Be sure to rigorously test your app and get as much feedback as possible before launch. Because one or two bad reviews can make all your hard work meaningless.
