Official Sprint WM6.5 Update For TP2 Due In March

This took entirely too long but Sprint is finally releasing windows mobile 6.5 for the Touch Pro 2. Most advanced users already are most likely running some ROM that has 6.5 on it already but for the users that like to keep their phone pretty stock this will be a welcomed upgrade. So stay tuned and I will let you know when it becomes available to the public.

Apple sues HTC for infringing 20 iPhone patents

Things are starting to hit the fan for HTC with Apple suing them over 20 patent infringements. This story has been developing for the last couple days and finally we have some details for you. Check below for more on this story.

Apple’s asking for a permanent injunction, which would bar HTC from importing or selling phones here that use these patents, along with triple damages with maximum interest. As you can see, some of the patents are fairly broad, like “unlocking a device by performing gestures on an unlock image”.

Steve Jobs has this statement:

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Apparently HTC was just as surprised to hear about this according to their statement:

“We only learned of Apple’s actions based on your stories and Apple’s press release. We have not been served any papers yet so we are in no position to comment on the claims. We respect and value patent rights but we are committed to defending our own innovations. We have been innovating and patenting our own technology for 13 years.”

Touch Pro Info: Hosting Transfer & Downtime

I apologize for the lack of updates these past few days. I am in the process of transferring the hosting accounts on my sites and have been on the phone with customer support to ensure the process goes as streamline as possible.

The process is about 90% complete; I am just having trouble with the sub-domain attached one of the accounts.

The site itself has been successfully transferred as well as the email accounts, yet support is having issues locating the appropriate files for the forum causing it to hold up the process. What I feared most about doing this was the downtime that it would have for each site but thankfully it was kept to a minimum (expect for the forum which is still down).

I cannot be any more please with the support Hostgator has offered in this entire process. They have been very patient and helpful with me calling them numerous times throughout the day and night. Without them, this would have never gotten done and knowing I have a team like them behind my hosting puts my mind at ease.

Bear with me by giving me a bit more time; then things will be back to normal. Once I finish getting my hosting situated on my sites I will be back at full speed.

New Product SIMFi Announced at MWC10

To be perfectly honest I am not sure if this is a good thing or bad. What is going on is manufacturer Sagem Orga has developed a SIM card with WiFi embedded into the card. They affectionatly named the product “SIMFi” and it brings the potentinal of WiFi access to non-smartphones that lack WiFi hardware.

According to Sagem Orga, “The new generation USIM card “SIMFi” can be inserted in any type of classic handset to act as a universal and interoperable HSPA/Wi-Fi router for any device.” The cards are being made now for Telefonica, though no release date was announced. I for one never knew you could fit WiFi circuitry into a 25 x 15 x 0.76mm footprint but this should be some exciting news for the future of tethering.

Windows Phone 7 Series Development Docs Leak

It looks like some of the Windows Phone 7 Development documents have leaked onto the web. It was three total documents that leaked out which I have included below.

After reviewing the documents, you’ll see that Windows Phone 7 Series is capable of multi-tasking. Most developers won’t get complete access to native APIs, probably for security reasons. The main developer tools will be Visual Studio and Expression Blend for the XAML UI. Silverlight will also be support, as well as XNA, which is the same programming language used for ZuneHD and X-Box Live games development.

The Future Of Android Products Looks Promising

Android phones are becoming increasingly more popular especially with all the new additions they have to the app store. Their app store is growing at a very fast pace with new android products being added daily and it is projected to increase in size drastically in the months to come. With that being said, it will be important to have as much up to date information about new apps and news as you can find.

Lately I have closely been watching out for news about the latest Android builds for the Touch Pro 2. There has been a lot of progress made for making the port 100% functional yet it is just not quite there yet. Numerous sites are posting android tips and tutorials about how to install each build on the Touch Pro 2 but I do not have the nerve to install it on my phone until there is a fully tested finished product.

So I am here patiently waiting. To be honest I am not sure if I will keep Android running on my phone once the final build is complete; yet, I do think it would be cool to have it for a while just to test it out. If you have been brave enough to act as one of the testers for the developers please let me know about your experience in the comments. I have not heard much from the people that have actually installed it on their phone and would like to get some more firsthand information about the builds.

Time To Hero Up! Companies Come Together To Take On Apple App Store

Well it looks like the Illuminati has come together to pool their efforts against the Hulk and banish him away in space! For most of you that are unfamiliar with the “World War Hulk” comic book from Marvel that probably went over your head, which is understandable. But I said that to reference the coming together of the major cell phone carriers to pool their efforts and make an app store to create with the super powerful Apple Store.

AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and 24 other companies have formed what they’re calling the Wholesale Applications Community, they announced Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.”For customers this means a broader choice of innovative applications and services available on a wider choice of devices than ever before,” the group said on its
Web site, which was online Monday morning. Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG Electronics also are part of the group.

“This is tremendously exciting news for our industry and will serve to catalyse the development of a range of innovative, cross-device, cross-operator applications,” said Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association.

I think this is very interesting to say the least. Only time till tell if this will be enough to to give Apple a run for its money but it is a good start.
